University of Florida College of Medicine...
I wrote this in December, but waited until everything was finalized to post it. Hooray!
CONGRATULATIONS! It is with the greatest joy and excitement that I offer you a place in the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) Class of 2016.
After several years of post-bac science classes, life inside a cubicle, volunteering, and shadowing physicians, the day has arrived: I have...

One year ago the fun began...
The AMCAS and AACOMAS applications open up in just a few days. Watching the discussion boards brings back all the memories of last summer. It’s crazy to think that this time last year I was intensely studying for the MCAT and working on my AMCAS application.
Now, I’m in Starbucks killing some time before the second look weekend starts for one of the medical schools I’m...

Table of Contents
I think one of least known parts of becoming a physician is the journey to get there. I have fielded this question multiple times, as many have thought I was in medical school while completing basic science coursework. Here’s a table of contents of my journey. I was a post-bacc student, so I’m writing it from the angle.
Pre-medical years
1) Undergraduate degree (tag: ug): I graduated...

Dual specialists
Popular Science Magazine published a fantastic article, “No Pulse: How Doctors Reinvented The Human Heart,” covering the story of how two surgeons are developing a new artificial heart.
What I found interesting was the physicians involved didn’t simply have a single specialty. Yes, they were surgeons, but also inventors.
I wonder, then, if to be successful in medicine, one...

Following dreams
I listened to talks like these to escape the cubicle. Motivation to escape the cloth stable was key for me.

Go-Nowhere Generation
The NY Times recently ran an article, “The Go-Nowhere Generation,” outlining how my generation is not moving to where the jobs are. Further, it blames things like Facebook and the sour economy as reasons why we are risk -dverse.
Unfortunately, I think the article does a great job outlining these particular issues with my generation, but I have a feeling they are much more complex...

Telling my story...
Fantastic talk from the writer of some of my favorite Pixar movies. Inspiring.
With this, I relaunch this blog. I just want to share my story for others. The process to medical school is full of misunderstanding. Further, it seems that the amount of sacrifice needed to become a physician is not really understood. I’m not an expert in anything but my own life, so why not just write it...

Under construction
Unfortunately, the Google+ experience didn’t quite work out. I like Google+ a lot for its security features and control of contacts, but alas, not everyone felt the same. Google+ is kind of vacant at the moment, so hopefully in the future, more people will see the joy in G+.
Anyway, I’m rebuilding this site, mostly to keep in touch with family and friends.
Farewell for a bit.

Hello!
You’ve reached Tyler Craig’s blog. Mostly likely you probably googled my name looking for a comedian. I am not him. I know, I’m sure you are disappointed.
Anyway, I started this blog some time ago, but realized I’m in a transitional period of my life. I’ve learned that blogs are for experts. You know, they actually post something of substantial value. I may start...
